I must admit - pregnancy shoots make me nervous.   So much of what I create comes from 'feeling'.   When he catches her eye and they start to giggle or when a mother looks at her baby with love and warmth.  Pregnant women seldom feel their best toward the end of their term.  How do I pose a woman who feels like a tank?

Danielle and I had a bit of time to chat before Mark arrived from work.  She told me that she very nearly didn't make it and had to 'team talk' herself off the couch.  I'd say 50% of maternity shoots that I book will postpone for another day or even flat-out cancel. Well done Danielle for soldiering through.

Danielle and Mark were extremely comfortable in front of the camera -making any anxiety I had disappear, and I really really like the shots that we got.

I'm leaning towards the B&W more on this shoot.  Anyone with me on this?

TIP: For posing on a shoot like this, try not to think about the presence of the photographer...enjoy the moment that you are having with each other and if that means moving position slightly away from the photographers suggestion to get comfortable - do it..

Due to the heavy rains on Saturday, we decided to postpone our shoot to Sunday.  The park that we had planned as our location was having their monthly Sunday market – drats!!!  A quick drive around found us at the entrance of a construction site where the grass had over grown…who would have thought?

Despite their comical height difference :) they were a beautiful couple and I wish them all the success in the world as they start their new family.

Despite wanting to call this couple Kirtstin and Ben and not Kristin and Ken (as it's supposed to be) the shoot went well and I think they look just too cute.

We photographed at Botanic Gardens...that place is amazing!
Don't you think they are going to have one gorgeous looking child???

Baby Bam Bam's on the way....

Helen and Jason are very good friends of mine, which made my job as the photographer WAY easier.  I knew that when I cracked the odd inappropriate joke that they would laugh instead of frown, and I felt comfortable standing on their bed and rearranging their furniture (only to not use that room at all - sorry guys!)

When I say that we laughed the whole way through, I'm not exaggerating.  It was SUCH fun!

We allowed ourselves plenty of time so that we could be spontaneous and stop when we felt inspired.  We met in Haji Lane and made our way down to Fika (a Swedish coffee shop) for a coffee&Cake break.  YUM!!! We then headed over to Helen&Jason's house and continued there until the sun was down.

I think that the photos show just how happy we all were to be together making memories.

Jason&Helen - when Bam Bam arrives, please remember that you have a personal photographer, babysitter, burper, nappy changer, nursery song singer, play dough maker, lego builder (and what ever else you need!)... just down the road.

Lots of love
Derryn

I am so privileged to have photogenic and willing family who are prepared to pose for me...I am just waiting for the day that one of them turns around and gives me a big fat NO.  Camryn (my neice) came close as you'll see by the sulky face in one of the photos below.  But I love it, I think it's so typical of a 2-and-a-half year old. Camryn, you can thank me in 14 years time when you're a famous model due to this early age practice.

As I type this, Tanille is about to pop. It's times like these that I wish that I was a writer so that I could adequately describe my excitement!  I've already got 2 beautiful nieces and in a few days time I'll have another, or a nephew.  My money is on a boy, but we'll see what happens. ;)

Dale - take care of my sister please. She's been making a baby for 9 months, you owe her. (and I'm sorry that you don't feature in this post, next time we'll do a shoot just for you, OK? wink wink!)

Hanlie was THE very first South African that I met in Singapore after having been here for a couple of weeks.  She answered so many of my questions and gave me wonderful advice.  She EVEN gave me a bowl of ultramel. Aaah, if I wasn't homesick yet, I certainly was when the custard ran out!

Now over a year later, her and Michael are expecting twins. One girl and one boy :)

Hanlie and Michael, I wish you the best of luck with the rest of the pregnancy, and I cant wait to meet your little babas when they arrive. Enjoy the photos.
